A native New Yorker, Gillian was struck by the impact of global trade on farmers in developing countries while studying economics at Stanford. She rediscovered fruit during a trip to Brazil, realizing that small-farm practices yielded infinitely superior products. Returning to San Francisco, she chased the intensity of flavor she had experienced and found it in the fruit of local organic farms. Wanting to share these exceptional fruits with her family back in NYC, she began creating jams using Fairtrade sugar + spices. Through this effort, she created Jamnation to celebrate fruit year-round and also to support sustainability both locally and in emerging countries.
